Using the PS2 Game Console with the Cable Modem

Using the PS2 Game Console with the Cable Modem The Sony Playstation 2 has the ability to connect through an ISP to allow for interactive gaming with other users. Mediacom or mchsi.com does allow our customers to connect their PS2 game console using our service. It is important that the following conditions be understood prior to connecting your PS2 to our network.

Mediacom provides only the Internet access for the PS2 to connect to specialized online PS2 game servers. Mediacom does not host or control the online PS2 game servers, and is not responsible for issues related to connectivity issues when attempting to connect to any PS2 game server. Mediacom is providing access to our high speed internet network, and can only provide support for matters related to general internet connectivity.

As the Sony Playstation 2 is equipment that is not provided by Mediacom, you will need to contact Sony or your retailer for support regarding any technical problems that arise outside of general internet connectivity issues.

A hub/router is needed to connect both a PS2 and a computer to the cable modem. Mediacom does not provide support for any form of networking equipment, such as hubs or routers. Customers desiring to use a hub will need to acquire one from a retailer or manufacturer, as this is equipment that is not available from Mediacom.

In order to use the Sony PS2 along with another online device, you will need to purchase an additional IP address. Please contact either your Mediacom local customer service or Internet Support, who will be able to notify you of the additional charge.

It is recommended by Sony that the use of routers NOT be used in conjunction with using the PS2 online. Sony reports a number of gaming issues when the PS2 is connected through a router.

It is recommended that if you desire to print out the following instructions, that a color printer be used. The Sony Playstation 2 backgrounds in the setup screens are very dark, and may not be able to print properly when printed in B&W.

  1. Load the Network Adapter Start-up Disk. This is provided with the PS2 Ethernet adapter. Select ISP Setup from the screen.
