Secure POP Access
If you are off the Mediacom Online network you can still access your e-mail using your e-mail client. However, you will need to configure your e-mail program to connect to our secure e-mail server via SSL. We have included instructions here for four popular e-mail programs: Microsoft Outlook Express, Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Outlook, and Qualcomm Eudora.
NOTE: If your PC is behind a firewall, you may not be able to download and read your e-mail via SSL as described below. Your firewall may not allow traffic on the ports required by SSL.
Configuring Outlook Express 5.0 and Higher
- Launch Microsoft Outlook Express.
- From the Tools menu, choose Accounts (the Internet Accounts window will
appear).
- Select the Mail tab.
- Select the mail account you wish to configure, and then choose the
Properties button.
- Select the Servers tab.
- In the Incoming mail (POP3) field, type mail.mchsi.com
- In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field, type mail.mchsi.com
- In the Account name field, enter your e-mail ID which is everything before
the @ symbol of your e-mail address.
- In the Password field, enter your e-mail password. Note: The password will
not be visible as you type it.
- Place a checkmark beside the My server requires authentication option.
- Choose the Settings button.
- Select the "Log on using" option.
- In the Account name field, enter your Mediacom Online e-mail address.
- In the Password field, enter your e-mail password. Note: The password will
not be visible as you type it.
- Place a checkmark beside the Remember password option.
- Choose the OK button. You will return to the Properties window.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- The Outgoing mail (SMTP) port number should be changed to 465.
- Place a checkmark beside, "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)".
- The Incoming mail (POP3) port number should be set to 995.
- Place a checkmark beside, "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)".
- Choose the Apply button, choose the OK button, and then choose the Close
button.
Configuring Netscape Communicator
